Funk Volume Tour 2012

Baltimore Soundstage was rocking and so alive Wednesday, September 26, 2012.  The Funk Volume Tour had come to Baltimore and the fans came out and really supported.  As I walked towards the building, I seen the line and noticed members and supporters of Wisdom Court who had come to show love to Billy Lyve and also seen the fans of Hopsin and Funk Volume.  Hopsin even came out front with his skateboard and was hanging out with the fans.

The show was opened up by Billy Lyve.  On his set he had other members of Wisdom Court, Team Flex, Voice and DJ Cliffstarr, and also his son Sky was gracing the stage as well.  For those in the crowd who had never heard of Billy Lyve or Wisdom Court is was apparent that they became fans with the music and his stage presence.  The picture there you can see Wisdom Court supporters and those who came to see Funk Volume having a good time.  By the time Billy Lyve finished his set, which included members of Wisdom Court coming on stage to rock out to his new song “Love Me Baby” ft DJ Cliffstarr and produced by Imahj, the crowd were new fans of this “unknown local artist”.

Then it was time for The Funk Volume Tour show to begin.  The tour consisted of DJ Hoppa, Jarren Benton, Dizzy Wright, SwizZz, and Hopsin.  I had never heard of any of these artists until I was told that Billy Lyve was opening for them.  And in all actuality the only name I heard was Hopsin.  So I went and listened to his music from the last cd I could find which was called “Raw”.  I was so impressed that this young man was lyrical and said things that I think most artists think but are too scared to really come out and say for fear of being put on a shelf or being released from their record label.  Also on the cd was a young man named SwizZz.   I have since went to Funk Volume’s web page and downloaded all the cd’s they have listed.

All these young men have a fan base all their own.  People were there to see Jarren and there were others who swore to me that Dizzy was the best emcee they have heard.  And of course Hopsin and SwizZz were the main names that are thought of when someone says Funk Volume.

Jarren Benton started the Funk Volume set off and as I listened to this young man I thought I know there is hope for the hip hop community.  He had the crowd hype and was truly having the time of his life on stage.  And at one point, DJ Hoppa came from behind the turntables and began rapping too.  Jarren even went out into the crowd in the VIP section and did part of his performance there.

Next up was Dizzy Wright.  And he did not disappoint me at all.  He is a laidback kind of guy and his music reflects just that.  During one song he was performing SwizZz came on stage and did his verse and then Hopsin jumped on stage and the crowd sounded like they lost their minds.

I even won a copy of Dizzy’s cd “Smoked Out Conversations” before the show began and I never win anything.  Although I had never heard of any of these guys the crowd obviously had because young guys and girls were singing along with them and they didn’t miss a beat.  These guys reminded me of a few local artists who have been doing their own thing and making the moves no one else is making.

Then it was time for what everyone was waiting for Hopsin took the stage and let the mosh pit and jumping up and down begin.   The crowd literally went crazy.  He performed songs off of “Raw” so I could sing along as well.  During the song “Trampoline” Hopsin dove out into the crowd and stood up while being held up by the crowd.

I was impressed by the lyrical content of Hopsin and SwizZz before I seen them perform and after seeing their performance as well as the performances of Jarren Benton and Dizzy Wright, these young men should be on the radar of every lover of hip hop.

Don’t take my word on it because it is after all just my opinion but you can find their music on www.funkvolume.com and you can find videos on YouTube.  I love storytellers and these young men are storytellers.

Big K.R.I.T. - Live From The Underground Tour 2012

Anyone who knows me know that I don't really go to "concerts" but I wanted to go and check out Big K.R.I.T. for some reason.  I have always liked music that has that underground feel to it.  Not that pop bubble gum sound like what most radio stations are trying to play.  I like story tellers and if I can close my eyes and see the song playing out like a movie in my head....well you got me as a fan!

I never really listened to any of Big K.R.I.T.'s music until someone asked me to download 2 of his cds and was like I think you will really like this guy.  I just shrugged my shoulders and was like yeah ok.  I listened to a couple tracks and was like ok he is good.  It wasn't until I seen him perform on the 19th at Baltimore Soundstage that I became a fan!

His energy and the crowds reaction to him was crazy!! And the groupies.....they were in full effect!!  I watched one girl upfront flirting with him and the same girl walking behind him and his people towards the bus!  LOL  I laughed and walked to my car!

I'm glad I went to the show!!  The only other name I recognized was Slim Thug and I really hadn't heard anything from him in years!!  But was impressed with all the acts that got on stage!!

This is Big Sant.  Don't know much about him but he was trying to rock the crowd even though there weren't many in there at the time!!  You know people always come late!!

Dude in the blue shirt was rocking all night!!!!  :)  He was showing love to everybody!!

Now this boy right here...this is GT Garza from Houston TX.  Now I was rocking with him!!  He got the crowd really going!!

This right here is Tito Lopez!!!  Yes you read that right!  He even joked about how he knew the crowd wasn't expecting to see him come out with a name like that!!  I love this guy!!  I definitely will be looking more into his work as well!!!

The crowd was feeling Tito Lopez!!

And you all know who this man is!!  Even without the braids!!  LOL  Boss Hogg himself.... Slim Thug!!  He was up there rocking!!  I didn't even know he had a mixtape out!!  Definitely underground artists!!!!

I'm a fan now of Big K.R.I.T.!!!  I have listened to the 2 cds I have over and over!!  He is a genuine guy!  He stayed on stage to sign autographs!  It made me wish that more industry artists would make music they really want to make and not bend to be what record companies want they to be!!

In The Spotlight Vol 2 The Sleep When I'm Dead Pt 2 Tour mixtape

Well I released the second volume of my In The Spotlight mixtape.  This one was like a concept cd.  I wanted to do something for Billy Lyve more than just be the official photographer for Wisdom Court and to basically put a shine on artists that I hadn't been familiar with before doing the tour.  I took submissions from artists that performed at one or more of the tour shows that went from Herndon, VA to Centreville, Md on the Eastern Shore.

Some I had no idea who they were or even if I was going to like their music.  I receive 15 tracks and had to listen to all of them and try to piece and part them together.  For me it was about how is this track going to fit with the track before it and how would it all flow.  Now I don't claim be be anything but a lover of music so I put things together like I like them.

So I finally got all the tracks and put them together and it just so happened that my godsons were at the house and this is a video of the 1 yr old vibing to Country Haze and Jay Bruno's Str8 East Coasting.

My whole reason for even doing the series to give people a chance to be heard by people who have never heard of them.  Trying to help in ways that maybe no one else is willing to help!!

So I hope that some at least go and take a listen if not download!!  There are 2 links!! Thanks to everyone who has my back with the things I try to do!!  It is truly appreciated!!

My Thoughts.....

Well the list came out a few days ago on who was nominated for The Baltimore Crown Awards that will be held on Nov 5th at 5 Seasons.  And there were alot of familiar names and some new names this year.  Yes I was nominated for Photographer of the Year and I thank everyone who nominated me.  And no I really don't think I will win this year but still to know that I have my own "fans" that love what I do, is heartfelt and puts a smile on my face.

For me the big news was that Wisdom Court had over 12 nominations for the company its self as well as it's members and those affiliated with Wisdom Court.  To me that means I made the right decision to be apart of this company.

I haven't really addressed that situation and maybe no one really cares but I think I want to explain not need to explain what has happened.

I have been supporting local music and artists since I met B.O.M.B.  I was never officially M.I.B. but I was of course a supporter and to some family.  Actually, I still am.  I just seen B.O.M.B. and Doc Baltimore today as a matter of fact.  LOL    Ok back to the story....I was never apart of any one team, clique or business.  I slowly became the Baltimore Paparazzi and had my own identity no matter how much people wanted to combine my face and name with someone else.  I was and will always be Lisa or the Baltimore Paparazzi.

I met Billy Lyve.  I had been hearing about Wisdom Court and it seemed like they came from no where but in fact had started out in the county and gained a fanbase there and then came into the city which I think was about the best move.  The city doesn't seem to try and get fans.  But that's another story!!

So I met and talked with Billy and became a fan and supporter.  I liked what I seen.  Not just music wise but on the whole business aspect.  I have been hollering this is a business treat it as such for so long and it was like no one wanted to listen to me.  But Wisdom Court gets it.  It is a company, a business and it's a family.  There is alot of support.  Everyone has a job that they have to do and they do it without complaining or making excuses about why they can't do it!

So when I was asked to be the official photographer for the Sleep When I'm Dead Pt 2 tour I said sure.  And then when I was asked to be a part of the Wisdom Court business I didn't even have to think about it.  I am still Lisa the Baltimore Paparazzi but I'm also Wisdom Court and we all bring something to the table.  When I was going through some issues and problems I got phones calls and messages making sure I was good because it was only a few that knew I was going through something.  But these people cared about me and not for what I could do for them and never have I felt like I was being used by anyone.  Business is business.

So with that all being said, again thank you to all of those who nominated me as well as those members of Wisdom Court for all the awards. I am so blessed to have so many people who appreciate what I do.

Benefit for Brandy and Yuk

On September 1, 2011 at Sonar, a benefit show was put together for Yuk aka Mr. Livewire who recently celebrated the birth of his daughter Kaylee only to lose his wife at the same time. So the out-pour of compassion, love, concern and caring started with well wishes and offers to try and help this now single father of 4 through messages on Facebook as well as face to face at events.  Tay Tay of Tayland Promotions then put together a benefit show where the space at Sonar was donated, the flyer and djing was donated by DJ Jabril and everything that was taken in at the door went to Yuk and his family as well as people donating clothing.

The performances were picked by Yuk.  He wanted it to be a celebration for Brandy and that's what it was!! The night ended with Yuk performing and the last song was the one he wrote for Brandy after she had passed.  As I looked around I could see tears in the eyes of a lot of people.

Sometimes it's not about you but someone else who may be going through things worse than you!

If you are interested in helping you can contact me, Tay Tay, or Yuk for more information!

Below are just a few of the 517 pictures I took that night!  Even if you aren't a friend of mine on Facebook you should be able to see the pictures!!
